Student Preparation and Readiness for Professional Practice

This final component of the Portfolio project is completed in the MSFT program’s concluding course, FMTH 672 Ethical and Professional Issues in MFT II. Upon final assembly of the MSFT Portfolio, and in anticipation of transitioning from status as a graduate student to practicing MFT under supervision, students articulate their future goals and licensure plans.

Summary of professional and employment goalsIn the final month of the MSFT program, each student completes an updated description of their goals for future professional growth and development as an MFT. This may include professional association involvement and areas of anticipated study and training in order to acquire skill in a specialty area of service. This document also addresses the range of employment options anticipated by the student.

Description of licensure plansThe steps to licensure include application in a specific state, or states, future completion of the National Examination for Marriage and Family Therapist, and plans for postgraduate supervised practice. Description of the MSFT student’s plans regarding licensure to practice as an MFT is the final required component of the portfolio project.
