Description of Future Goals and Licensure Readiness

As I sit and ponder “my next step,” I took a moment to look back at my “first step” towards my future goals. Even then in the beginning, I felt strongly that a Master of Science in Family Therapy would allow me to utilize and nurture all my gifts and talents and support my desire to apply the information and knowledge acquired to influence helpful change in others. I had not imagined that this degree would uncover and open new and exciting pathways to my future. The time it will take me to prepare and finish my Licensure will provide the time for me to further define my future as either an LMFT or LCMFT.

In the fall I will return to Arlington, Texas and return to obtain work in the field of Education. I will use this time to research the state requirements for licensing through the Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists and continue preparation for the National Exam. I will continue my affiliation with AAMFT and utilize this affiliation to locate local mentors in the field.

I would also like to become a part of an area group of Marriage and Family Therapists. I will also use this time to locate and interview an AAMFT approved supervisor. I hope to find a supervisor who will help to develop my integration of Bowenian, FIRO, Intergrenerational and EFT and IFS theories that inform my work as a therapist and further develop my understanding and application other theories that will increase my competency to work with a diverse population. I will direct my search towards a supervisor that will support the type of family work I desire to do within an educational setting.

My hopes are that I am able to balance the transition back home to Texas, along with my reintegration back into the field of Education and hold onto my dream of some day working with families in a meaningful way by impacting individual lives through education.
